Resource Request

The Good Samaritan, Giving and Receiving

Jesus' story of the Good Samaritan teaches us that love is shown through simple acts of care to share resources amongst our neighbors.

In the story of The Good Samaritan, found in Luke 10:29-37, a Samaritan traveler came across another man who was laying beaten and hurt on the road. The Good Samaritan recognized how he could help and bandaged the man's wounds, pouring on some of his oil and wine. The Samaritan then went on to bring the now bandaged man to a place where he could be given ongoing care and resources.

Some requests for resources are like that first act of caring for each other—a one time occurrence—and other resource requests are recurring.

At Love UMC, we invite everyone to take part in both sides of the story: to bring what they can for others and to receive what they would also benefit from.

This is the heart of The Community Table, where sharing God's abundance is practical, joyful, and for everyone in our community.

Where do resources come from?

At Love, we have what's called The Community Table, located at the welcome table during Sunday worship at Saluki Rec Center, 10:30am...

The Community Table is inspired by West African Christian traditions, where believers would offer what they had—fruits, vegetables, livestock, clothes, and more—as a way to bless the community.

These gifts were not just donations—they were acts of worship, offered to God with joy and gratitude.

Everyone in the community could then take what they needed, sharing in God's abundance together.

In Acts, 2, the early believers also shared everything they had so that no one among them was in need. This spirit of generosity and care is at the heart of

The Community Table.

At The Community Table, we honor this tradition. Here, giving and receiving go hand in hand: a tangible way to worship, to care for one another, and to celebrate God's provision.

By giving what we can and receiving, we follow the holy example of living in love, abundance, and mutual support.

FAQ

Do I have to attend Love UMC to donate?

No, you do not have to attend Love UMC to donate... Donations are made by the entire community, for the entire community.

Where can I donate?

Donations can be made at Saluki Rec Center on Sundays at 10:15am, just before service, by the entrance of the room that the worship service is located in.

Do I have to stay for the service if I donate?

Only if you would like to! If you would prefer not to stay, you're still welcome to grab a beverage and snack to go from the brunch table by the entrance.

What are some examples of resources I can request?

- Need the next size up of clothes for your child? Maybe someone just grew out of that size and is ready to pass the smaller size on...

- Did your toaster break? Perhaps someone has one to share because they just bought a new one.

- Forget to buy mayo at the store and you need it for a recipe? Maybe someone dropped one off at The Community Table because there was a buy-one-get-one sale going on.

- Having a baby and need bottles? Perhaps a family's youngest just transitioned to sippy cups and there are still bottles in the cupboards that are taking up too much room.

...These are just a few examples and there are many more.
